Filter kaapi @ Indian Coffee House, Bangalore - its a favourite! #RestaurantReview

One thing that I have learnt from a year’s stay in Bangalore is that time is very fast but you can make it stay with you as long and as back as you want. And that is the significance of the place I am going to talk today.
They have excellently managed to hold time in their aura and kept the old world charm alive. And with its heavenly coffee that touches the senses, travels through you and clams you down, This place is Love!

Indian Coffee House is a very popular name and you will probably know about it. But if you are someone like me who has always fancied new things and rarely find old huts to dine in, chances are high I am talking something new to you. Indian Coffee House is a Coffee place which has all the elements of old world charm because well it is that old. The people, the machines, the cutlery, the curtains, the ambiance all speaks of the days when we were deep indulged into watching Madhuri Dixit’s Sajan movie or probably used to be so indulged in the video games and cricket that we had absolutely no need to visit coffee shops.

I happened to witness Indian Coffee House through a friend who made me visit this very charming coffee house because it was his kind of favourite. And an explorer as I am, i made attempts at finding the place for almost half n hour before realizing I was standing right outside it. This place very unlike to the coffee places of today is calm, quite and makes the essence of life. You will find friends talking in groups and laughing like crazy without noticing others, people having meetings to discuss their work and couples who are having their coffee dates. When I walked in I was the only one who was sitting solo.

Sitting solo has its own kind of charm - you have all the thoughts in the world to yourself and you don’t have to worry about anyone. You can be yourself, take your time, not rush anywhere and have your own private space. I in much pleased self indulged into my reading only to be attended by an old man wearing white uniform with red turban and belt around his round belly. Indeed he was here to take the order. He handed over the menu to me and left a glass of water and returned after five minutes to get the order.

Concept: There is no concept as such! There used to be coffee days in the gone era with wooden furniture and typing billing, with well dressed men taking your order and keeping everything simple. This is one of those old coffee shops which is run by the workers of The Indian Coffee Worker’s Co-op Society Ltd. And is still going strong and holds THAT taste of the filter coffee which nobody yet can produce. They have a new Indian Coffee House restaurant opened up at Koramangala but for a Vintage Bengaluru, this is the place!

Ambiance: Yes I want to talk lots about it. The ambiance is very busy yet free. You will sit to have a nice time with yourself or friend but not longer than finishing your order. Because hey! Make way for others! You will make noise with your friends but the billing counter uncle will hint you that you are indeed disturbing other people. The sitting arrangements are very old but still maintained and clean.

Food: This is one place where you sit, don’t look at the menu and order one HOT FILTER COFFEE! And then if you are hungry too you can order one of their awesome items in the menu i.e. the veg cutlet. Even the bread toast and omelets are good.

Drink: It is INDIAN COFFEE HOUSE and so Coffee is one thing that is brewed to excellence. You may try tea or nimbu paani which are okay too.

Plating: The cutlers they use is very classic old ones which you are familiar with your travel stories to hill stations. They have kept the tradition to eat with fork and knife still alive and you will feel that touch of simplistic coffee places every moment.

MyPlateReview Recommends: The rainy evenings or the winter readings, meeting a friend or just spending some quality time with your partner this place takes you back to the old world where relationships and self-contentment mattered more than applications. My favourite combination is multiple cups of filter kaapi and veg cutlet to go with it. They may have turned old but not lost that sophistication.
