#Review Swiggy: Food Delivery App

What happens when 3 Indians get passionate about a Food-Startup! They make jugaad their key! And so is Swiggy for us, the jugaad of our daily home delivery of food!

A startup by Sriharsha Majety, Nandan Reddy and Rahul Jaimini which started in August 2014 has become a friend to almost every traveller, office goer and migrated students! As I mentioned earlier, I have become a fan of Swiggy App. The safest and prompt delivery of food has become their trademark. And what’s best is that they don’t even charge extra for their services.

I remember when Swiggy was launched I was in Bangalore and searching for food delivery options. It was a rainy day and going by the kind of rain Bangalore has to offer, major restaurants denied to even accepting orders, let alone a delivery after 2 hours. It was me and a bunch of friends, tired and hungry, sitting at home searching for good home delivery food from places we wanted. Just then one of my friends suggested the Swiggy app. I was like we have already tried many options now, what new is it going to do. And I am glad I was wrong. We went on the Swiggy website and registered. The website detected our location and voila! We had a list of restaurants in and around our residence area which had put up their food menus there and also the dishes which were highly recommended. More so, they were accepting orders for delivery within 40 minutes with no minimum order requirements.

After placing the order, all we were waiting for was a damp free safe delivery of hot food into our house. And there the bell rang! A delivery boy (I don’t really remember his name) putting his raincoat and Swiggy tagged T-shirt on, was waiting at our doorstep with the order. He was totally wet and we all thought that our order too has been washed away.But as soon as he handed us our packet, all our notions had taken a backseat. The plastic was hot and dry, and complemented with all the necessary things needed to binge on it. Sometimes restaurants miss out on giving paper plates and spoons and forks, but Swiggy has its own small packaging of this stuff for their each delivery. Full points on that!

The food as NOT EXPECTED was steaming hot and delicious. What more? We got what we wanted, from the place we wanted, at our home at the same price (Even when it was raining)!

Another Episode, as I mentioned earlier in my Berco’s Restaurant review, was that of the Talumein soup being the only item ordered from Swiggy at 11:15 p.m. Almost all restaurants had stopped taking orders and home delivery was out of question. After a search of almost 15-20 mins in my cell phone all I could get through was a quick order of Talumein soup through the Swiggy App! Delhi was in its chilling best and soup would have been the perfect rescue. And, as I had EXPECTED this time, the soup was served to us within 40 minutes, packed perfectly and steaming hot. I don’t know how the delivery boy managed to be so quick and careful about the delivery, because the later visit at the same restaurant was a little disheartening in terms of the same order.

Concept: The Delivery Swag! An online website and a mobile app which helps you order food from the nearby hotels and restaurants, without the ‘Minimum Order’ hussle! They collect food on your behalf, let you track your order, offer a list of what’s most ordered and recommended from that restaurant!

Service: I never had a bad experience with Swiggy Service people, they are never late and deliver the food the same way you would have if you would have gotten picked them up yourself! Currently services are available only in Mumbai, Bangalore, New Delhi, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune and Chennai.

Also, they do not support multiple restaurants for a single order; so if you want to order two dishes from two different restaurants, you will have to place your order twice. And if there is any extra preference or choice/flavor issues with any dish you have ordered, then there is a section you can write on for personalizing your food and the delivery boy will take care of it.

Price: They don’t charge any extras for their services, but sometimes they do have a minimal delivery charges for very small orders or even minimum order placing amount for some areas. Also, they don’t provide you with the bill, they show the bill for reference but retain the original bill with themselves. (You anyways have track of the bill in your app)

MyPlateReview Recommends: Baithe chaaahe jahaan bhi ho, khana chahiye toh order kar lo, aa jayega!! If you have to order food online and the ‘Minimum Order’ criteria is troubling you, switch to Swiggy App and get it delivered the way you want! Although they don’t have a order-through-call feature and list only the restaurants which have a tie-up with them, We just hope they would soon put up a big comprehensive list of all the food options available in the area.
