Scorching heat and a glass full of chilled falooda.. divine!
Old delhi
has its own charm! No matter the rush and the constant pulling and strutting of
rickshaws and autos. We love Old Delhi or lets just call it Puraani Dilli,
because I love it thay way! So yes, since from the earlier you must have
already known that I am a die-hard delhi food fan, also my food love revolves
around Puraani Dilli.
The smell of Chhole Bhature – paraanthe - jalebi-kachori and ofcourse the sweet delights, which I am going to talk about here.

The Rabri Falooda
at Giani’s Di Hatti. Well who doesn’t know this place since a decade now? And
if you still don’t then don’t waste another moment into anything else and just
dive into loving dessert the Puraani Dilli way!
Yes, I have
had multiple (multiplied by n) visits to this famous joint by now and is always
on the top of my list whenever I am near Chandni Chowk. I never miss to make
anyone I know to get this Falooda tasted because I have come to know that this
taste doesn’t exist anywhere else! (#Fact) I won’t bother with the story I have
with the place, because that would now make the post turn into a personal
diary. Lets just indulge into the place and taste.
Concept: Giani’s
Di hatti used to be a joint run only for the purpose of selling Rabri-Falooda
and some kulfis, of which Rabri-Falooda gained the most momentum. They have
expanded it into a much bigger shop just next to it, serving Chhole bhature,
Rajma Chawal, Lassi & Other items. They even have a Mango-shake counter
next to the Falooda stall. But whats more inspiring is that they are now a
brand! With multiple high-end outlets covering almost the whole of Delhi &
Gurugram (Uh! Still not used to it!) with their range of Faloodas and
ice-creams. They serve best of Rabri-Falooda & Chhole Bhature around the
city.
Ambience:
The oldest Chandni chowk stall is mostly a stand and eat couner or a takeaway
option for walkers. But the brand outlets have a regular sitting places for
visitors.
Food: Lovers
of Chhole Bhature & lassi find their escape in Giani’s Di hatti, as they offer
quite a good taste and quantity. It would be unfair if I don’t descirbe what a
foodie feels here and the love for them!
Daal ka
halwa (I love this one!) ~ Come any season, they have a big kadhai full of daal
ka halwa with a bed of dry fruits covered above it. On your order, the man there
takes a small portion of the hlwa and dryfruits, mixes them well and then
serves you. The strong flavours, the desi-ghee aroma and the pipping hot
crunchy yet soft texture is to die for!
Gajar Ka
Halwa ~ Come winters and they serve us with their Gajar Ka Halwa like you have
never had before! The pure and fresh taste is their way of killing our diets.
Falooda ~
Haven’t I talked enough about it? Still if you are wondering what goies into
it, then it’s a icy-cold glass of Falooda topped with rabri, dryfruits and lots
of crushed ice and flavourings. There is something in the taste here that it
makes the heart grow fonder of Faloodas. And yes the taste of Falooda they have
in their oldest counter in Chandni Chowk is the best! Their outlets somehow
miss the taste which Giani’s has been making since ages now.
Service: The
service is prompt. You need to make the payment on the retro like Cash-counter
for the order you want to place and get the slip. Its covered with glass and
has hole just enough to exchange the money with the slip. The slip or the token
is then exchanged with your order as soon as you take it to their respective
counters.
Plating: The
Rabri-Falooda is generally served in a Big glass, heavy enough to fill your
stomach. Otherwise for other items they have resorted to using Paper plates and
glasses because of the high footfall and takeaway orders.
Cuisine:
Vegetarian
Price: One
glass full of Rabri Falooda is worth Rs. 70/- which is full value for money
(earlier it used to be Rs. 40/-). Chholle Bhature and Rajma Chawal come at
about Rs 70/- for their full plates each. They do have an option of half plates
for which they charge half the price. So yes, quite cheap!
Mood:
Crowded! That says it all. Just take your food, stand with your partner and
keep talking and munching! That’s what I do!
MyPlateReview
Recommends: Go to Giani’s in the lunch time or evening when you are very VERY
HUNGRY, indulge into their Garma-garam chhole bhature, don’t fill up your tummy
and go grab a glass of their #LifeMeinEkBaar Rabri-Falooda ! You will love it.
