K Rustom's ice-creams an age old legacy; Mumbai's Must!!

Up for some ice-cream kind of love??..

Mumbai is indeed a dream city and I found myself building castles too while hustling through the Mumbai streets. The fast paced mumbaiya life, the rush and tensions and then the sea shore to calm you down. All makes up for a nice treat only until you are not ready to make equations with the heat. No matter how much Mumbaikars bash about the Mumbai rains if there is one thing I hated about Mumbai, it was the heat and the endless sweating I went through.
This obviously led me to find new ice-cream places all over! I tried the matka kulfis, the golas and then I landed into this pretty awesome ice cream joint which is already a favorite of all. K Rustoms the very famous parsi ice-cream makers who keep the mumbaikars delighted with their unique style ice-creams.

I really wanted to try K rustom’s ice-cream once when I get to visit Mumbai as the pictures had already delighted me so much. And so after having a sumptuous Punjabi dinner near Colaba, I and my friends just started walking towards the Church Gate and right near to the station is this room like place where you find a lot of people gathered. The crowd was like a group of people are attending a gala evening or probably waiting for someone to arrive. I hadn’t been here before and so figuring out the place was a little difficult with no big name popping out of the store. But that I could see the same kind of ice-creams in most of the people’s hands I knew we were in the right place.

Concept: A simple and old structured counter like store where you order your choice of flavor and grab it. Have it outside the store or just walk away with it, you are so going to love it. It is indeed a parsi ice-cream place (as goes by the name) serving you a range of flavours from normal to natural ones and has been there since decades now. A favorite amongst the locals and a hunt for the visitors!

Ambiance: The crowd around the place was so good and friendly you could almost relate to attending a party. The fun is when you see people ordering their flavours. There is no one who understands what to order and just makes random choices out of their favorite three to have it now and then grab another piece later.

Flavours: Choosing a flavor was so difficult that we went by the thumb rule. Choose everything you like – cut off the ones you have had – pick one from the remaining choices – Order the left ones after 10 minutes! Yes travelers do that to relish the charm of old ice-cream houses serving the best kind of ice creams.

This six decades old ice-cream sandwich place which is a hit with almost everyone here is house to a lot of experimentative flavours. Flavours like walnut crunch, strawberry fruit spread, vanlla with chocolate sauce and brownie, coffee, paan, anjeer and coconut keep the crowd delighted. They also house some great squashes in flavours like litchi, strawberry and sitaphal.

Style: This is what I was waiting for! The idea of K Rustom’s ice-creams! They don’t come in cones or cups, they are ice-cream sandwiches made just for you. Remember the cream bell ice-cream sandwich we have in vanilla flavor? It just got beautified and we now have crispy corn waffles on both sides and a big slice of our favorite ice-cream flavor in the middle to make for the best sandwich in the world. Unique ice-cream style and mind blowing concept.

MyPlateReview Recommends: We tried the rose flavor, the paan flavor, roasted almond crunch and the sitafal. And the least expected one turned out to be the best – The rose! Yes, I have never enjoyed such delicate flavor of rose in such beauty as in this one! The pinkish reddish touch to the white ice-cream with rose petals and mild rose flavor running into your mouth perfectly! The paan was great too with the natural paan feel. Go ahead and explore your ice-cream love tonight!
