#BOOKREVIEW: A House for Mr. Misra by Jaishree Misra - Interesting tale!

A House for Mr. Misra by Jaisree Misra
Publisher: Westland Books
ISBN: 978-93-86850-48-5
Genre: Non-Fiction
Pages: 199
Rating: 3.5/5

Intriguing visual descriptions, excellent write-up and a tale that somehow revolves around all our lives!

I picked this book with much delight one, because this book had all the qualities of being a fiction but is a non-fiction and two, because buying a house is everyone’s list – be it big or small. I haven’t read any of Jaishree Misra’s works but having known that the author has written some of the finest works – this copy just came by!

The book has been weaved with a very settling tone finding a couple beautifully set into a London life with their jobs and life in place until everything changes and they leave everything altogether to buy a house in Kerala. Known as God’s own country and famous for its tourist footfall, the book brings out the unknown and unseen tales of the place, even the darker sides which no one talks about.

The story of building your own house is definitely loaded with a lot of mind games, relative pressures, impulsive decisions and dealing with a lot of issues which makes living in the place worthwhile. The book has brought out all the ingenuity of the neighbours, deal with the seller, cranky maids, suicidal snakes and more. After all thinking of building a house where the waves touch your boundary isn’t an easy task!

The local scenario, life of the people of Kerala, the general temperament, style of living is brought across beautifully. You can feel like you have been to Kerala and spent days here to know how people think and work here. Making for a good non-fiction read, the book is like a explanatory autobiographical tale of how the author built a house in the Coastal Regulation Zone.

Turning through the pages of the book I came through a lot of well written sentences which made me re-read them because of the precision of thoughts they conveyed. I loved the fast read but also wanted a lot of details into the subject. At some places I thought the scenes could have been more detailed or I deserved a little more explanation to the scenario – but overall the book was sticking to the title put on.

It’s a light read with simple situations that build up interest and gives a pleasing end!

#StreetFood in Siliguri : Momos # 1

If you are from Siliguri, West Bengal and searching for a good place to have momos, then search no more. There can always be restaurants and cafes giving you all the love about this oh-so-famous thai food but what the roadside stalls and small shops have in them is incomparable.

Binging!

Hello there!

Here starts the journey I have been on since a long now but the stories have only been with me.The story of binging on different cuisines and trying new restaurants everywhere I go.

Indians are famous for their love for food everywhere. And they make sure they find the best delicacies of different cities and try them out. This is their love; and I as an Indian have an addictionto this love. An addiction, of putting everything that smelled nice right into my mouth. The love grows if the vapours rise and fill my tongue with water. And if it comes with a little music and beautiful people around, even better!

By now my family and friends have given up on me. The knick-knack of clicking pictures of food whenever we order and the fuss of asking the chef to define their dish has become mentally toruturing for them. But what can be done, the heart (read: tongue) desires what it does. And so I don’t give up my this bad habit of binging on food and talking about everything eatable.

Visiting different food joints and restaurants, the pubs and discs, the food stalls outside temples and also the golgappawallas on the corner of my house. I have all of them in my list here. Bringing to you my food journey!
