Bread Pulao ~ an easy evening snack ; Recipe

Daily cravings? Well I have most of the things sorted for you. You don’t have to run here and there to find ingredients and open fridge again and again to just see if something magically appears!
Take that packet of bread out of your fridge and let’s get into a 5 minute work to make some awesome snack.

Yes bread is a simple solution to most of hunger problems (wish it was life!). And the ways in which it can transform a dish from nay to yay is simply marvelous! Be it a sandwich or just making a sweet dish, baking something or having it raw, Bread has won our hearts! And this time I am bringing one more mind blowing dish from kitchen which most of us relate to as we are used to it for our breakfasts or may be sometimes over tea!

The bread Pulao! Some people do call it bread fry also, but I prefer bread pulao, I think this justifies the dish it is! Bread pulao is basically making a pulao out of bread pieces.

As a kid I was very much fond of it. Maa used to give it sometimes in my lunch box, as it makes the stomach full, has a lot of veggies and is easy plus fast to make also. So without wasting any more time let’s just get into the process and make some good Bread Pulao, because we need a Sunday tea-time!

Ingredients

1 packet Bread (cut in square pieces, each bread 9 pieces)
2 Tomatoes (chopped)
2 onions (cut into juveniles)
½ cup shredded Cabbage
½ cup peas (Boiled)
10-12 Curry leaves
1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
1 tsp mustard seeds or sarson seeds
½ cup Tomato ketchup
1 tsp green chilli sauce
1-2 green chillies (chopped)
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp red chilli powder
½ tsp black pepper
1 tbsp oil plus 1 tbsp butter

Method

  1. Take a deep non-stick kadai and heat it on a medium flame. Now put some oil and after the oil heats add butter to it.
  2. Now add mustard seeds and curry leaves in the heated oil and let it pop.
  3. Add chopped green chillies. Take the onion juveniles and cabbage and fry in this oil till they are half cooked.
  4. Add tomatoes and peas and let it cook a little more.
  5. Now that the veggies are semi cooked, add salt, black pepper, red chilli powder, tomato ketchup, and green chilli sauce and mix it well.
  6. Sweeten the mixture by adding some sugar.
  7. Now the last thing is to add the bread cubes into the mixture slowly and steadily. Try not to break them or overcook them. Mix them with a light hand until all of the mixture is evenly mixed with the bread.
  8. Spread some coriander leaves on it and serve!

This is a simple snack with a salty-sweety taste and softness of bread accompanied with veggie delight. Perfect for that healthier version of evening chai time hunger! You can of course go for more veggies of your choices and experiment with the taste, but I would advise to first try the basic one. Pack it in lunch boxes or just serve it with tea, sure to win hearts! Tell me about your experience!
