Hello says March and we start waiting
for the festival of colours!
Holi in India is a time of celebrating
not just the historical facts and holy beliefs but a time where people forget
all there sorrows and choose colours to paint their life. Lost friends unite,
disputes get solved, smiles are spread and amidst all of it is the celebration
of food that fills up not just tummy but soul.
In India there are special food items
being prepared in every festivity and therefore when we associate Holi with
food Gujiya and Thandai are the top picks. One cannot let the day pass by
without chugging a few glasses of Thandai or Bhaang off their throat. Also,
sweets play a merry roll into making your day a sweeter one.
Gujiya is an assortment of dry fruits,
Saffron, Mawa (Dried Milk) and even chashni (Sugar Syrup) which is heavenly
flavoured and stuffed into Maida shell to deep fry and again sweeten it with
sugar syrup. The sweet is a special delicacy which is prepared on Holi to
celebrate the festival. As fresh and flavourful the sweet it – Gujiya happens
to be one of the oldest form of sweets prepared in ancient history.
My typical Holi morning has always
been to get up early and run errands around the house in rush to cook the
finest of delicacy, prepare the thandai, assort the sweets, collect colours in
a thali and then begin with the religious offerings. After Maa is done with the
prayers – its time to let go all the work for the day and splash colours on
everyone!
The Abir (scented dry colours) in the
air feels like freedom and for once no matter how gloomy the time had been,
everything seems to feel alright. The colours, sweet, taste and the happiness
to be surrounded by the people you love fills up the soul to make you feel
afresh. This amaze feeling gives a sense of confidence and joy that indeed
happiness is just around the corner.
I wish you all a lot of colours in
your life – Yellow to lighten up your mood, blue to add the touch of cool and
calm, green for the health and beauty ~ Red for the bright days that are coming
forth.
Happy Holi to all of you! Dig into a
few glasses of Bhaang or Thandai and bite on the sweets, fill up your hands
with colours see them spread as smile on your loved ones. Because you deserve
it all! Stay safe and play safe!
