When we talk
about a sumptuous breakfast on a Sunday or think of taking a small plunge into
quality eating South Indian food is the first choice for all of us! The crispy
dosas with the potato filling or the soft and smooth chutney with coconut
chunks we love to dig into a full plate of dosa (with no sharing!) to make
ourselves rejoiced with the food love! And so Saravana Bhawan is where Delhi
eats its South Indian delicacy!
When talking
about Dosas – Sarvana Bhawan is a name synonymous to its existence in Delhi.
Being a prime restaurant chain with beautiful, sumptuous and amazing taste in
the South Indian cuisine, this restaurant is a benchmark to people. Not just
being a choice for people to have their breakfast, brunches and meals, the
crave for the South Indian food here is so much that you will find the outlet
always full and waiting. Having so much importance and love of people for its
Dosas and Idli delights I could not have given it a miss! And hence here is the
#RestaurantReview and tour of the restaurant outlet which is located in
Connaught Circle, New Delhi.
Concept: One
of the largest chains in the world which serves South Indian cuisine with such
fine taste that people come here again and again! The restaurant was first
founded by Mr. P Rajagopal (lovingly called Annachi) in the year 1981. The
simple idea of serving good Indian and vegetarian cuisine and bridge the gap of
quality food led to the introduction of this mighty restaurant. The efforts
started paying off and the restaurant started gaining momentum. And then came a
phase where Annachi’s joined him in the venture too and there has been no
looking back since then. With being one of the most loved restaurant in Delhi, Saravana
Bhawan has about 20 restaurants in India with a majority of numbers being in
Tamil Nadu. As for the delhiites the one and only in Connaught Circle is love!
The
restaurant also has about 56 outlets all over the world serving the best of
Vegetarian South Indian Cuisine to the people from all around the world!
Ambiance: As
busy as it gets the place is always beaming with people in and out and hovering
over the crispy dosas and soft idlis made here. Because of the heavy crowd and
faster serving the place is always busy, noisy and fast in momentum.
What to order?: Well when it is about ordering
south Indian dishes you just cannot give a miss to the crispy dosas in various
flavours that are famous for this chain. Masala Dosa, Onion Masala Dosa, Cheese
Masala Dosa, Paper Masala Dosa, Mysore Masala Dosa etc are some dosas to aim for.
However here is a quick review of what I ordered!
Onion Masala
Dosa – The crispy rice dosa that is usually popular is now topped with a lot of
raw onions inside and then served to you with three classic chutneys and a
sambar. This one here cannot be beaten for the freshness and the sumptuous
taste.
Idli – I
ordered rice idlis and they were amazing. Accompanied with the usual chutneys
was one special side-chutney which was a delectable mix of kokum, banana and
some sweetness. Loved the experience of this one too!
Plain Dosa –
When you aren’t tired of eating the crispy dosa and want to eat more of it you
order plain dosa. Light and crispy to satisfy that craving!
Filter Kaapi
– Filter Kaapi or coffee is unbeatable at the South Indian joints and I plan to
not give it a miss! The south Indians have a culture of serving Filter Kaapi
right after meals and so I chose to indulge in one too. And this one lingered
from my tongue to senses completely.
