A coffee, the old times and endless hours of solace..
After visiting the Indian coffee House in church Street
Bangalore, it was impossible to stop me from going there multiple times. The evenings
almost consisted of taking up multiple coffees one by one and reading book
while sitting in the corner of that time traveled room.
But departure from Bangalore had to happen and here I was in search of another Indian Coffee House in Delhi. And to my luck, I found one again! The Indian Coffee House at Connaught Place, New Delhi!

It lodged as a surprise but totally believable that such
concept would not have left the capital city. With all the elements of the gone
era, the old age charm, the silence amidst the rush and overseeing the busiest
hub of New Delhi – Indian Coffee House is a treat!
As you enter the 2nd floor
of the Mohan Singh place you are treated with a silent place which is occupied
by mostly college students, readers, artists and also old couples who spend
their time here. The familiar touch of Dilli with a charm of little things! Probably
like you have entered an old movie of the 80s or 90s era and sitting in the
calmness where people mattered more than time and money! Some coffee shops speak
a lot about the city – Indian Coffee House does!
Concept: Much like the old era, this coffee shop is a very
old coffee shop with iron benches, terrace and insider seating and workers from
the Indian Coffee Worker’s Co-operative Society Ltd running it all. The workers
are dressed mostly in white uniforms with red turban and belt while sometimes
you will find them casually dressed.
Ambiance: Sit for hours and you will not be disturbed. Look around
and you will find groups of friend spending time together or probably couples
doing the talking. An open terrace to look around the wonders of the city and a
clear view of the Connaught circle and an insider seating with vintage chairs
and table and old coffee shop look!
Food: Filter kaapi is a must order here as they are ‘Indian Coffee
House’ and to go with it one can certainly order the classic bread sandwich,
omelets, cutlets or even pakoras. Look at the menu and you shall find a lot of
options. Even the south Indian dishes like Masala dosa and Keema dosa are
popular.
Drink: Like said Coffee is a must! You can also order tea,
nimbu paani, orange squash etc.
Plating: Being a very minimalist place the cutlery is not
very fancy but classic. The white cup plates will remind you of the coffee
shops in the hill stations and that of old hindi films and make you feel good
too. The serving style is good too with the tea pots and fork & knife
combination to keep the old charm alive.
