An evening @ Prithvi Cafe : A slice of Cinema & Mumbaiya Food

An evening to sip good tea, watch the plays and top it up with the tranquility of time! Prithvi Café in Juhu, Mumbai is a slice of Mumbai served in a café!

How often do you wish to come across all the things you love under one single roof? Well when we talk of Mumbai and food nothing can match well like cinemas and when it is all under one roof, why should we go somewhere else? Prithvi Café adjacent to Prithvi Theathre is the most dramatically inclined, oasis-like place which is covered with a warmth and essence of Mumbai which shall not be missed!
And thus this had been the place I visited twice on my trip to Mumbai. Reasons? Partly because it satisfies my hunger for cinemas and plays and partly because it satisfies my hunger keeping my budget in mind!

Concept: Prithvi Café is a small café which is just below the prithvi café and is home to all the artistic people who like to meet for a cup of tea or spend a time of friendly gossips and get togethers under the roof of the most dramatically inclined theatre. The place is lit up with warm string lights and hangings, bamboo décor and marble & even wooden chairs to sit while making it a place to meet up!

Ambiance: Be it any time of the day you shall find people hovering over the food here and making the most fot heir friendly meetings. Mostly surrounded by people of age 18-35, the place is quite buzzy but not loud to not let you have that time into reading. A perfect place for the evening snacks or a heavy dinner or even for sorting the choice for your next play watch!

Food: I tried a lot of dishes here and I have no complaints. This is because the food here is so appropriately priced and taste really good. I happened to order a lot of dishes, lets get in details.

Chilli cheese toast ~ the triangle shaped breads served with a heavy dose of chilly cheese and baked perfectly. Each bite has a crispy bread and cheese melting the mouthing leaving a spicy tongue. It was served in wooden plate and looked class!

Classic Pav Bhaji ~ The Food of Mumbai served best! The PaV Bhaji had the perfectly buttered pao and the spicy-tangy bhaji which lives by the definition of the dish I was expecting it to be!

Hummus with roasted Mushroom ~ I tried hummus for the first time here and I loved it! Served beautifully like a nest, the hummus (made from chickpea paste) and the pita bread with the stir fried and toasted mushrooms were a treat to the taste buds.

Veg. Biryani ~ Mumbai never fails to delight you with some of the finest Biryanis and here was just another one. The simplest Biryani with the right serving, although I hoped for a bit more of marinated veggies, but this lived the purpose of the vegetable Biryani!

Drinks: Drinks are the essentials that you order before food, while eating food and some more for the after taste – Well at least that is what happened with us!

Peach iced tea ~ Mild taste of the peach fruit with an iced tea that had a few strands of mint and slices of lemon. Beverly!

Prithvi’s Famous Irish Coffee ~ This was a fun mix of the liquor coffee topped with whipped cream. Like irish coffee is served in raw and pure form, this one is their classic serving and each sip speaks why is it so famous in Prithvi! – It’s a hot liquor coffee!

Oreo Cookie shake ~ Just the random Oreo cookie shake – no standouts here!

Mango Shake ~ Served in a bottle and perfectly chilled, the mango shake was very thick and almost enough for one person to have a meal in a bottle!  Come summers and this is the favourite and most popular pick here!

Beer Bottle Chhaas ~ Talk about ddrinking Chaas in a bottle style, this was the perfect masala chaas with mild chilly and yet minty flavor completing the taste of the food!

Service: Service is apt! Although one may be required to wait for sometime because of the rush, the management makes sure you have a booking and are placed on the tables on time. However there can be glitches in service when there is a huge rush.

Plating: The serving style is mostly at par with the way other joints serve. Apart from the bottle style milk shake and chhas. The irish coffee glass won my heart though!

Price: As I said earlier, this place is quite aptly priced, maybe to cater to all types of crowd that walk in here! Very pocket friendly!

MyPlateReview Recommends: A visit to Mumbai is sure to include a visit to Prithvi Café. Go fo an evening snack or a dinner, or meet with an old friend while you are surrounded with bambooistic environment filled with chattering of people around!

  1. This is a gorgeous place, and I won't soon forget it. Attended event at Los Angeles venues sponsored by the company. The reception hour was held in one of the rooms next to the hall. I loved their buttery mashed sweet potato.
